Professor Ann-Katrin Kaufhold is Chair of Constitutional and Administrative Law at LMU, a post she has held since 2017. Her research interests include financial market regulation and constitutional law as relating to the climate.
“We are filled with great pride and joy at the appointment of Professor Ann-Katrin Kaufhold as Vice President of the Federal Constitutional Court,” said Matthias Tschöp, President of LMU. “This appointment not only honors her outstanding academic and professional achievements, but also recognizes her commitment to the legal sciences and her importance to our university. I am convinced that her expertise, integrity, and foresight will enrich the work of the Federal Constitutional Court in a truly remarkable way.”
Kaufhold studied at the universities of Passau, Toulouse, and Freiburg. Freiburg is also where she earned her doctorate in 2004. Her doctoral supervisor was Andreas Voßkuhle, former President of the Federal Constitutional Court.
Kaufhold’s election sees LMU once again represented in Germany’s highest constitutional body. Before Kaufhold, law professor Peter M. Huber was also a Federal Constitutional Court judge until 2023.
Ann-Katrin Kaufhold will be officially appointed in the coming weeks by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
